12" Aperture, Dobsonian Telescopes

We,re geeks at heart... and as a result we've launched a new division specializing in the construction of Dobsonian telescopes. Our primary target market is schools and other educational institutions but we eventually plan to expand to the consumer market as well with a larger offering of aperture sizes and options.

Astronomy is a wonderful hobby and profession. We've witnessed a great declining interest, especially among the 15-35 year-old groups, in astronomical observation. This is a world of instant access to any form of entertainment so it's no wonder that we have seen this decline. Through working with schools directly we hope to play a part in reintroducing the night sky to a whole new generation of observers.

The YDOCS 12", F5, Dobsonian/Reflector Telescope

This telecope is built for quick & easy assembly and disassembly in the field; typically by one person. The entire superstructure sits on a high-quality rotary bearing for near finger-touch movement (but robust enough to prevent movement from wind and the occasional bump in the night). The Alt-Azimuth bearings consist of polished aluminum strips riding on a UHMW surface. It's friction-free enough to allow for very easy movement, but with just enough inherent friction to allow for the changing of eyepieces without drift due to balance changes.

• Primary Mirror - F5, Plate Glass, Al & SiO2 Coating, 1/6 Wave
• Secondary Mirror - BK7 Glass, 1/10 Wave, Al & SiO2 Coating, 92% Reflectivity
• Structure - Ball & Socket Truss Tube for repeatable setup every time
• Mirror Cooling - 4 fans move air across the primary mirror for fast & efficient cooling
• Anti-Dew - The secondary mirror mount contains an integral anti-dew heater
• Focuser - 2" Crayford-style focuser w/ 1.25" adapter
• Maximum Practical Magnification - 600X
• Electrical Operation - Fans and anti-dew heater are controlled from a switch-box mounted to the secondary cage
• Electrical Supply - A 120VAC to 12VDC power supply is included for use with house current; a 16 foot car accessory cord is included for field power
